Angela is a 21-year-old writer and performer with Down Syndrome, and a strong advocate for inclusion. She was one of the four recipients of the 2021/22 Artivisti Award by Arts Council Malta and Malta’s National Youth Agency for activism through the arts. Angela’s Artivisti Vision is to break down society’s assumptions about what we think is normal and what we think is different. Angela worked under the mentorship of a well-known Maltese author Clare Azzopardi on a Young Adult novel called Inner Demons for her Artivisti project. On 5th October 2022, Angela held a reading of her “Own Voices” unpublished novel at the Concert Hall of the Malta Society of Arts, Valletta. The event included the reading of excerpts from Inner Demons. Author Leanne Ellul provided a review of the manuscript https://www.leanneellul.net/news.The event provided an opportunity to discuss how characters with disabilities are portrayed in books, as well as the theme of relationships of young people with disabilities. Angela is currently seeking representation for the manuscript, and her dream is to have Inner Demons published! Angela is releasing this video on 03 December 2022, which is the International Day of People with Disability.
